As I write this post, I find myself in the unusual position of not actually having much of an answer. And anyone who has met me knows, I normally don’t have a problem talking.
Normally I have eleventy-billion projects on the go. This is how my poor little ADD brain functions. I start something (normally by writing the first three chapters), then set it aside. Then I pick up an older project and finish it, usually while doing edits on a book that is with one of my publishers.
But this month has been different. I’ve just finished up fulfilling my contractual obligations and then went on vacation. I gave myself permission to not work on anything for two weeks. TWO WHOLE WEEKS! This is a new thing and it actually took me a while to adjust. However, as my vacation is winding down, I’m actually feeling more buoyant and ready to tackle a new project.
The question is, what to start?
I have three new ideas for series that I’ll start fleshing out. One is for an erotic new adult story that deals with three roommates. Yes, new adult is the “big thing”, and normally I don’t rush to try something like that out, but this idea just happens to fit. I’d actually written the first 10k of book one in late spring, so I think it might be time to brush it off and finish it up.
The second idea is for my next two steampunk romance novels. I’m in a bit of a holding pattern when it comes to these (need to wait on sales numbers for books 1 & 2), but
I’m chomping at the bit to get them done.
The third idea is most likely the one I’ll do next. I have an urban fantasy novel that also fits into the new adult category. I’d actually written this years ago, and have been wanting to clean it up. Gargoyles and kick ass heroines should wait for no writer.
What does all this mean? I have no idea. I usually flounder around for a bit until my brain latches on to the idea that best fits with my mood/abilities/imagination at the time. Then, I tear it up. Fingers crossed that I get it figured out soon.
