September Contemporary Romance Recommendations from Amy Remus of So Many Reads

SoManyReads

Hi all CRC readers! I am Amy from So Many Reads and I have been asked to share some awesome contemporary romance books with you. Below are some great contemporary romances that I have read so far in 2013:

The Practice Proposal by Tracy MarchThe Practice Proposal by Tracy March – This was on one of my first Bliss books and it was the debut for Tracy March so I didn’t really know what to expect. It was great! I had a tough time pulling myself away from The Practice Proposal. I read it in March during MLB’s Spring Training and couldn’t wait for baseball to start afterwards (but you don’t have to be a baseball fan to enjoy it). Tracy’s writing is smooth, the plot moved along at a good pace and the descriptions of people and places make you feel like you are right there in the story with the characters.

In The Practice Proposal we meet Cole Collins, a major league baseball player for the Washington Nationals and Liza Sutherland, the daughter of the owners of the Baltimore Orioles. Cole and Liza had met when they were teens and Liza had quite a crush on Cole at that time. Now they are grown up and it has been years since they have talked. Because of Cole’s agent, Frank Price, the two are thrown together for a romance that neither Cole nor Liza really expects to happen.

Tracy sure had me on the emotional roller coaster in this book.  I found my heart breaking and even shed a couple of tears for both of Cole and Liza at times. No worries, though, because I also found myself laughing out loud with them. When they forgot about the reason they were in this relationship, Cole and Liza were relaxed and focused on each other, and the relationship was easy and fell into place. We don’t get to read a lot of books about easy relationships so it was refreshing.  I highly recommend The Practice Proposal to anyone looking for a fun, heartwarming read about family, friends, and love.

Wrecked by Shiloh WalkerWrecked by Shiloh Walker – As my first book from Shiloh Walker I didn’t really know if it would be really hot or really sweet or somewhere in between. It was both, and I loved it. I loved the hot, hot scenes that were wonderfully written. I loved the sweet, romantic scenes that made my heart melt. The writing was easy to follow and the characters were well developed and you felt their emotions as if they were real people.

Zach and Abby have been friends forever. They have always been there for one another through ups and downs. There are no judgments between them. Just a pure, loving friendship. We get to see what happens when they take things a little further than friendship in this story. This friends to lovers story wasn’t like other books with a similar plot. It was different, was really, really good and I honestly could not put it down.

At times, while I was reading this book I laughed, cried, and yelled in my head at the characters. The intimate scenes were very well written for the characters and the story. They were hot and romantic and I think they truly spoke to the love and respect that Zach and Abby had for one another. If you are looking for a contemporary romance that is both sweet and hot at the same time, I highly recommend you try Wrecked.

All He Ever Desired by Shannon StaceyAll He Ever Desired by Shannon Stacey – Ahh, the Kowalski’s. I have loved all of Shannon’s Kowalski books. In Ryan and Lauren’s story you get the same great writing from Shannon along with a great story that always has meddling family and friends. There are few contemporary romance writers out there where I can read book after book of theirs and not feel I am reading the same story with different characters. One of the great things about Shannon’s books is that you don’t get the clichéd scenes. You never quite know what her characters are going to do or react to a certain situation.

I laughed at many parts of the story and even had to read some of them out loud to my husband. I also had a heavy heart at some parts of the story. The family dynamics made the story very real, as many people deal with situations like her characters do in real life. Lauren and Ryan are very compatible but their relationship wasn’t easy by any means. I think the intimate scenes between Lauren and Ryan were fun and fit the story and the couple perfectly.  I found All He Ever Desired to be one of my favorite Kowalski stories. If you love contemporary romance with a big, loving family and great friends, then give this one a try!

Platinum by Jeffe KennedyPlatinum by Jeffe Kennedy –  Most of the time I am drawn to sweet contemporary romance books, but I do have a naughty side to me and like to read fun and naughty books when I am in the mood. And when I want to do that, I look to Jeffe Kennedy.  I think Platinum is my favorite of hers so far.  When I first saw the interaction between Althea and Steel I thought there was no way the Jeffe could pull off getting them together and making it believable. Althea was just too upper class and a little snooty for Steel.  I was wrong, thank goodness!

Both Althea and Steel have many layers (issues) and they have to get past what the world thinks of them and dive deeper into who they really are as individuals. They truly brought the best out in each other and found they could be real and authentic with one another.  The love story between the two was awesome. I felt a wide range of emotions while reading Platinum and there were some really awesome “aww” moments that melted my heart. The ending was absolutely perfect and when I finished it I was able to sigh happily. Then I went on to read it again. If you are looking to read something in the erotic category that includes a little bondage, I recommend you try Platinum.  The story is sweet, sexy, real and hard to put down. It will leave you thinking about it long after you finished it!

Personal Assets by Kelsey BrowningPersonal Assets by Kelsey Browning – Kelsey Browning brings us a great new contemporary romance that will have you fanning yourself and laughing at the same time. If you like Jill Shalvis and Shannon Stacey, I think you will like Kelsey’s writing. She writes witty banter and hot romance in a small town community that will gossip about its people but also support them. Kelsey brings her own level of sass to the story which makes for a very entertaining read. The writing is easy, the plot is original and the characters are well developed.

Cameron and Allie are an unlikely pair. Take two very independent people with their own preconceived ideas about one another and you have an entertaining story. Kelsey does a great job of weaving several plot lines together and does a fantastic job of setting up the town and building the foundation for future books in the series. The romance between Cameron and Allie was not what I expected (in a good way). The intimate scenes were hot, well written and fit the characters and plot nicely. Some of them were downright funny. If you are looking for a small-town Texas romance full of sexy, sassy characters who learn heartwarming lessons about family and community I highly recommend Personal Assets!

  1. Amy, these all sound wonderful! I’ve been looking forward to Shannon’s latest as well, and I’ve been eyeing Shiloh Walker’s Wrecked, so I think you’ve talked me into it. And yay, so many Carina Press authors made your list! *happy dance*

Thanks so much for dropping into the Café. :) I’m now headed over to your site to see what other gems you’ve found recently.

    • Thanks, Stacy. Yes, I love Carina Press authors! Ever since I discovered Shannon Stacey and Adrienne Giordano’s books I have continue to learn about more CP authors. I just wish I had the time to read them all! :)

    • Hey, Tracy! I aim to please. Ha. You certainly make my day by allowing me to get away from the busy work and home schedule by writing such entertaining books. So thank YOU. :)

  2. So many reads indeed! I am always completely overzealous when it comes to my romance reading list :) I was so happy to come across this post; thank you for your recommendations. I was lucky enough to find the book “Come Fly with Me” by author Judith Whitmore (http://www.judithwhitmore.com/books/come-fly-with-me/). The book is packed with romance, passion, adventure, and surprise twists and turns throughout. The author focuses on leading lady Kate and her loveless marriage. Kate puts her heart and soul into her organization for at risk teens and into flying. She is an aerobatic pilot and uses flight to escape her current situation. Kate decides to go to the next level and learn how to fly a jet. Her teacher, Rick, unbeknownst to her, is the man she is destined to meet, the change she has been looking for :) This relationship comes at a cost though and the couple have many obstacles to face before they can live “happily ever after.” I couldn’t put the book down and I thought it was a nice change from the usual love stories I have been reading. Hope you will give it a chance!
