My favorite male characters: sexy men of few words

One of my favorite authors created two male characters who are practically a household name. I believe I’ve even seen bumper stickers asking the important question: which one of these men would you choose if you could? Better yet, wouldn’t it be great to be Stephanie Plum and NOT have to choose?

I know you know who I’m talking about: Ranger and Morelli, the two men alternately keeping bond agent Stephanie Plum out of trouble and in their sights. What’s so likable about these guys? It could be their physical toughness—no doubt they can and do kick ass when required by either the wrong side or the right side of the law. It could be their mysterious habit of showing up when there’s trouble, like they live just in the shadows on the edge of Stephanie’s bizarre and quirky life. Maybe it’s their downright sexiness—Janet Evanovich gives us plenty to work with here. Eyes, abs, hair that curls just over their ears. It’s a pretty fine picture.

You know what I like most about Ranger and Morelli? They are men of few words. Maybe this sounds strange from a person who writes thousands of words a day and speaks a lot more than that…but I like a man who is succinct. Something about the way Ranger says “Babe” and Morelli shakes his head and says “Cupcake” implies volumes. If these guys can utter one word and say so much, my imagination runs wild thinking about what they could do with only one night in bed.

If you haven’t indulged in the lengthy series of Stephanie Plum novels beginning with One for the Money, you’re missing out on hilarious characters—both male and female—and a plot that will keep you reading. Evanovich is one of my greatest inspirations and my novels Her Lucky Catch and Her Lucky Prize feature some pretty funny moments and sexy men of few words, too. Whatever you’re reading this month of gorgeous summer days, I hope you’ll have fun with it!

P.S. I’m happy to announce that Carina Press has lowered the cover price on Her Lucky Catch to $2.99. If you’d like to read about my sexy man of few words, Firefighter Kurt Reynolds, it’s a great time to find the book at Carina Press or your favorite online retailer.

My favorite male characters: sexy men of few words — 5 Comments

  1. I haven’t ready a lot of the Stephanie Plum series, but it’s on my list. I loved One for the Money. So funny and filled with quirky characters. And Janet Evanovich is definitely one of my literary heroines for both her commitment to her writing in the face of years of rejection, and for the huge success she’d achieved.

It’s wonderful hearing the characters that an author enjoys reading and how that character influences the ones we write.

  2. Men of few words are usually men of action, which is right up my alley. :) I think Curran, the Beast Lord, in Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series fits that description, though I haven’t read all of them yet.

And woohoo for firefighters! Talk about men of action… *fans self*

  3. OMG, I love Ranger and Morelli. Am I the only person who wonders why she can’t have both guys? Maybe even at once? 😉 (Though they’d probably kill each other, LOL!)

Nothing like a one word “Babe….”

    *happy sigh*
