Maggie’s excellent adventure

Next week, I will embark on what I hope will be an excellent adventure – I’m heading for my second-ever Romance Writers of America Annual Conference in NEW YORK CITY!

Yes, I said that just like the guy on the salsa commercial. I’ll probably look about as bumpkinish when I land in the Big Apple as well. While I did live in and around Chicago for many years, the Arkansas summers have melted any vestiges of city slicker cool I might have acquired.

I’m so excited I can hardly stand it!

For me, there’s nothing more exciting than being around other writers. Being able to talk characters and conflicts and contracts with my cohorts keeps my creative juices flowing. This is why I try not to miss my local RWA chapter meetings if I can help it. I need time with other writers to charge my battery.

My husband, sweet piece that he is, isn’t even a reader, so he’s no good when I need a sounding board. My critique partner is the best in the world (I mean it, and I will fight a duel to preserve her right to the title), but she’d in the Great White North and I’m in the Land of Cotton.

We do a fair bit of damage using Google Hangouts, but there’s nothing quite like personal interaction.

So my bags are semi-packed and so is my schedule. I’m hoping to hook up with some of my fellow CRC authors if we get the chance. I also plan to sit in on some seminars conducted by my favorite authors in hopes that a smidge of their greatness rubs off on me. :)

I just hope I don’t trip over my feet while rubbernecking!

How about you? Any big trips planned/taken? What’s the coolest thing you’ve done so far this summer?

  1. 😀 <— Literally my face right now. I hope you have a blast in NYC, but I know that's a given! Can't wait to hear all about your adventures. In the meantime, I'll just look forward to my upcoming trip to the Land of Cotton. 😉
