Brenda Jernigan on Finding Inspiration

brenda jerniganI have always envied my author friends who say they have hundred of ideas running around in their head.  Alas, I have nothing … it is pretty much empty up there until an idea strikes.

For SEPTEMBER STORM the idea for this book came from my husband who was reading the paper about a man who was calling women and telling them that he would come over to their house and to be in bed.  Then he climbed in bed with the women.  It seems the women thought it was their boyfriends and it really surprised them when they found out.

So I thought what would happen if you woke up with a stranger in your bed.  BrendaJernigan_SeptemberStorm_800pxWhat would you do?  Then I decided to make it a little more complicated .  Let’s have the heroine, who realizes she has made a mistake, not be able to get away because she is trapped on an island and Hurricane Fran is headed their way.  Did I mention that the hero is a real hunk?

This is how SEPTEMBER STORM came to life.  It sounds so easy but, believe me, it wasn’t.  I think all authors can tell you when they look at their finished book they wonder why that was so hard.  However, when you are writing a book, it is hard because you’re always doubting yourself.

I hope you get a chance to read SEPTEMBER STORM.  I love its tag line.

It was the wrong place … it was the wrong time … to fall in love.

She grew up living the life of a tomboy – climbing trees, playing ball, and excluding starry-eyed romance from her daily repertoire.  Brenda discovered the love of books while taking her son to Story Hour at the local library — she was hooked.  She set an ambitious goal and began work on her first novel.  She continued to write six more novels in rapid succession.  She figured having the same birthday as Ernest Hemingway couldn’t hurt.

She is a member of RWA, NINC, PAN, PASIC, and Outreach International Romance Writers.

Her books have been printed in several languages and her last book “Southern Seduction” written under the name of Alexandria Scott was printed in Russian.
