It’s kind of hard for me to name just one author that I admire. But for the sake of brevity, I tried to narrow it down thought so here’s my top three.
Maya Banks. If there’s one author on this whole planet who I aspire to be like, it’s Maya. She started out in the epublishing world and has built such a huge and varying brand. She’s gone from e to trade to mass market and hit all the major lists. Lists aren’t a huge priority for me at this point, but her hard work ethic and the continuing quality of her books is an inspiration for me. So when I grow up, I wanna be like Maya Banks.
Nora Roberts. I’ve gushed about her before, but no list would be complete without La Nora. She is the queen of the romance world. Like Maya, she’s written across multiple genres, has a devoted following and continues to produce. Nora produces so much that she needed a second pen name just so the publishers could keep up. I have so many quotes by Nora that I love, but the one I live by is, “You can fix anything but a blank page.”
My mentor, Eden Bradley. I’ve been a rabid fan girl of Eden for years. I’ve bought all of her backlist and I’m pretty sure I own more than one copy of THE DARK GARDEN. So when I got the chance to be mentored by such an amazing author, I was shell-shocked and might’ve stuttered a lot during our first conversation. But Eden is a great lady who put me at ease *almost* immediately (I think she wanted to bask and/or revel in her sadistic pleasure in making me nervous). Eden has taught me so much about characterization, layering conflict and how to think like a man. Not to mention the continuing support she’s given me even after the mentor program ended last year.
Any author who can pay their knowledge forward like that is a class act in my book. So I’m a fan girl on multiple levels with Eden.
